The DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) will not register for your vehicle if the articles checked in your application registration do not balance those given to HMRC. If you are a single person or non-VAT registered corporation importing from outside the EU: You won’t be required to inform HMRC using NOVA (or complete a NOVA 1 form). Nonetheless, there are some customs forms that you will have to fill in before you can register your vehicle along with the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency).










If you are taking a vehicle constantly in the United Kingdom from abroad you must:
  • Notify the details of the vehicle to HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs) within 14 days of its record, and
  • Pay every VAT owed as a part of this rule before the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) it can register it.

Notifying to HMRC

You need to give either your driving license a photocopy or a photocopy of one document from each of the two lists below.

  • Decree nisi or decree complete
Document to confirm for your address
  • Gas, electricity, water or landline phone bill issued within the last three months
  • Current year bill of council tax
  • Bank or building society statement issued within the last three months
  • Medical Card
